" This play therapy research involved a 3-year-old girl with peer relationship and social adjustment problems due to attachment issues. Using the Benedict (2001)¡¯s ¡®Preschool Children¡¯s Common Play Themes¡¯ system, ¡®regression¡¯, ¡®attachment¡¯, ¡®family¡¯ and ¡®safety¡¯ were seen revealed as prominent issues. Additionally, mother-child interaction initially improved through restoring internal stability and trust through ¡®constancy¡¯ and ¡®protection¡¯. In middle-stage I, as the mother¡¯s physical contacts increased, the child showed themes of ¡®neglect, abuse, self-punishment¡¯, ¡®self-nurturing¡¯, and ¡®roughhousing¡¯. In middle-stage II, interactions with other adults increased, predominant themes which emerged were ¡®neglect, abuse, self-punishment¡¯, ¡®nurturing¡¯ and ¡®doing-undoing¡¯. In the end-stage, she showed increased proximity and attachment to her mother with ¡®nurturing¡¯, ¡®boundary-setting¡¯ and ¡®fixing¡¯ themes. This study dealt with the play themes of preschoolers¡¯ related to attachment issues, changes, and perceived attachment by parents."
